TREE SURGERY:

CROWN REDUCTIONS OR THINNING

  • The most intricate operation in the tree surgery world especially when working in confined spaces.
  • Crowns can either be lowered or lifted as shown below

  • Lets light into dark gardens.
  • Council permission is usually required which can take up to 6 weeks to obtain.

FELLING

  • First we check if the tree has a Tree Preservation Order placed on it by the Local Planning Authority, exceptions to this are trees that are dead, diseased or dangerous.

  • When clear space is available this is the most exciting part of our job Normally we are limited by obstructions such as other trees/shrubs, greenhouses and other buildings. It is at this stage that you will see our Tree Surgery skills demonstrated by the section felling of the trunk and the lowering of branches safely to the ground.

PRUNING, AND BRANCH REMOVAL AND DEAD-WOODING

  • There is a correct season for these operations depending on the tree species.
  • Correct pruning of young trees is essential to prevent decay.
  • By pruning a tree when it is young, huge improvements can be made to its future shape and safety, saving you money later on.

POLLARDING

  • One of the Somerset Level's most characteristic sights.
  • Oversized crowns need pollarding to prevent splitting trunks.
  • Once completed this is a job anyone can do on a biannual basis themselves, offering a major cost saving in the future.

COPPICING

  • Allows light and air into decaying woodland.
  • Provides a first class dormouse habitat.
  • Increases ground flora
  • Wood produced can be either sold or made into artefacts.

TREE SURVEYS AND REPORTS

  • Frequently required by mortgage companies before purchasing a house and may need to be updated at their request.
  • Can be provided if there is a concern over disease or safety.
